Why?

Modern food production and lifestyle habits have greatly reduced the diversity of microbes in our diet. Soil depletion means even raw organic fruits and vegetables contain far fewer naturally occurring microbes—especially in colder climates where the SBOs and phototrophic bacteria struggle to multiply.

Very few people drink from wells or streams, and staple foods like milk, beer, and soft drinks are now pasteurised. Medical antibiotics, antibiotics in animal feed, pesticides, and chlorinated tap water all kill beneficial bacteria, while refined sugar encourages the overgrowth of yeast in the gut. Traditional fermented foods have largely been replaced with pickling in vinegar or sugary, pasteurised alternatives. Even stress can reduce blood flow to the gut, further disrupting the microbiome. Together, these modern changes make it harder than ever to source the precious bacteria that our guts require.

How?

Probioform® is made using a multi-stage cascade fermentation process that creates a complete, active microbial ecosystem. The strains grow together, allowing them to interact naturally, produce beneficial acids and enzymes, and develop a stable low pH of 3.7 to help the organisms survive the stomach acid and begin to multiply within 15 minutes of consumption.

In addition to lactic acid–forming bacteria, Probioform® contains rare soil-based organisms (SBOs) and phototrophic bacteria. Think of them as the conductors of your gut microbiome orchestra, helping to support a balanced environment where beneficial bacteria can thrive.

Liquid vs Freeze Dried

Most probiotics are sold as powders or capsules because they’re cheaper to produce and easier to transport. Freeze drying removes all water, placing the organisms in a delicate spore-like state that can damage fragile cell walls. Once ingested, only a small percentage survive the stomach acid. Most conventional probiotics supply just 3–12 strains which are cultured separately and combined post-production, leaving them isolated and vulnerable to digestive conditions. Manufacturers of freeze dried probiotics choose to exclude delicate phototrophic bacteria and exclude many SBOs because these strains do not survive freeze-drying in any meaningful quantities.
